The American Le Mans Series (ALMS) is comprised of three different classes of racing cars - the Prototype category features open cockpit prototype World Sports Cars (WSC) and Le Mans Prototypes (LMP), GT2/GTS cars as well as Grand Touring (GT) formerly known as GT3. Classes feature purpose-built racing cars with an emphasis on spectator car identification. There are twelve races in the ALMS series as shown below:

The Nurburgring, Road Atlanta and Adelaide events are pre-qualifying events for the 2001 Le Mans 24 Hour Race.
