Brief Synopsis of events
(official)
The Chamberlain Motorsport Team had their best result so far in the 1999 FIA GT Championship when their drivers Ni Amorim (Portugal) and Toni Seiler (Switzerland) came second to Olivier Beretta and Karl Wendlinger at Zolder in Belgium yesterday.

So far this year the works-backed ORECA Team has been invincible with first and second places being attained at all previous races of the FIA GT Championship.  This time it was different.

Ni Amorim, straight from a pair of wins in Portugal in another of Chamberlain Motorsport’s Vipers, started the race and after a very good first hour handed the car to Toni in third place.

Toni held his position for most of his stint until a lurid spin avoiding a slower car dropped him to fifth. For the last hour Ni relentlessly chased the lead cars ahead until the pressure told and with 15 minutes to go he took second place from the Lister of Julian Bailey and Andy Wallace.

Car 19 raced well moving up to 7th in the second hour with Christain Vann taking the first stint.  Unfortunately all went well until lap 47 when Christian Glasel left the track (possibly at over 100 mph) causing mid-level damage to the car and forcing its retirement.

Hugh Chamberlain, Team Principal, stated after the race "Make no mistake, for Car 18 this was a hard won place. To be beaten only by two ex- Formula One superstar drivers in a factory-funded car is a very good result indeed.   Car 19 was proceeding well after a difficult time setting up the car to the drivers' satisfaction.  However, their time will come."

Highlights of the race will shown on Eurosport at 2000 CET on Tuesday July 20 and again on Wednesday 21 July at 0930 CET.
